OTE staat voor Οργανισμός Τηλεπικοινωνιών Ελλάδος, wat zoiets betekent als Griekse Telecommunicatie Organisatie.

De telefoon zelf was gemaakt door респром Белоградчик (Resprom Belogradchik) in Bulgarije in 1985.

Voor ongeveer 1975 was Resprom Belogradchik bekend onder de naam ТЕЛЕФОННЬIЙ ЗАВОД БЕЛОГРАДЧИК

Caught this poor thing in a junk shop on Krete in 2022. They had several telephones by various manufacturers, many from eastern Europe.
I got this one because it was marked with OTE, the former Greek telephone authority.

OTE stands for Οργανισμός Τηλεπικοινωνιών Ελλάδος, which basically means Greek telecommunications organisation.

The phone itself was made by респром Белоградчик (Resprom Belogradchik) in Bulgaria in 1985. This particular version has the OTE logo on the underside showing it was especially made for them.

Although, out of the various phones available, I thought this one was closest to what I wanted and looked to be the nicest one, it did have several issues. I should have payed better attention, I guess.

"Where is the complaints department?"
“Where is the complaints department?”

The transmitter and receiver were missing. The line cord was cut, which I of course did notice. The connections and frame of the coil were damaged and deformed and the plastic cap over the dial mechanism was broken.

Perhaps the phone was once dropped and the impact caused this damage.

The phone was made by Resprom Beogradchik. The name Resprom was a brandname used by the Bitova Elektronika company in Bulgaria for various electronic consumer products.
They had various factories in Bulgaria and the one located in Beogradchik made telephone equipment.

Before ca. 1975 Resprom Belogradchik was called ТЕЛЕФОННЬIЙ ЗАВОД БЕЛОГРАДЧИК (TELEFONNʹIJ ZAVOD BELOGRADČIK), which means something like Telephone Factory Belogradchik.

Other Resprom products were made at other locations. These products did not have the place of manufacture added to the name. They did have the same style of font for the name Resprom, together with the same logo.

TA stands for Telephone Apparatus. I am not sure if the number 600 means anything. The phone very much looks like a telephone from the 1960s, but I have not been able to find on that predates the 1980s. I assume that it was not introduced before that.

It is made entirely out of plastic. Like many of its look-a likes from other parts of the world it has a hand grip at the back.
Inside is a simple PCB with various components. The dial mechanism is a copy of an Austrian design.

It has a common dial mechanism with 2 metal bells.
The dial is mounted on the upper housing, which is unusual for this period.
It is very cheaply made, with low quality parts and a rough finish.

For example the dial mechanism never properly adjusted and I had to bend the clapper a little bit to make a correct adjustment even possible.

As I already mentioned I got this specimen in Greece at a junkshop. There was a lot of fine mud on the dial and on the handset cord. That makes me think it may have been outside for a while, but when I got it it was displayed indoors.

I cleaned it up and oiled the dial. Also I found a replacement transmitter and receiver. Fortunately standard PTT caps fit this model.
Also the connections of the coil were torn out of the PCB, with the frame deformed. I repaired that, after which the phone worked again.

I glued the cap over the dial mechanism back together and made a new card and transparent cover for the number card window.
I will hang onto it for a while, as it is a souvenir of a very nice vacation. But as you may suspect I would rather have a red one. :-)[:]
