GPO’s first plastic telephone, designed to meet modern demands. It was first released in 1959, developed by GPO, British Ericsson and the Design Council. It’s design is based on the Ericsson / GEC 1000, the WE 500 and the Siemens “Centenary Neophone”.

The inspiration from the WE500 is probably the reason it is somewhat larger as other phones from its generation.
Early version were made of an acrylic plastic called Diakon, later models were made of ABS. This is the first of the 700series, a large family with many variants.
My cream coloured specimen has a rather rare extra receiver with bracket.
